Post in: A Legacy Story

Caring for twins was an adjustment for the entire Lord’s household, but Promise, Mitch and Heart were ready for the challenge. Blaze and Morris were kept on a strict routine of feedings, naps and baths; the schedule seemed to allow everyone stay organized and rested. Unfortunately, the routine came to an abrupt halt, once the twins entered toddler hood.

Heart loved her new brothers and played with them whenever she could, but she had homework to complete, chores to attend to, and friends to keep in touch with.

Promise encouraged her daughter to be active and playful, so she knew Heart would be unable to help her tackle many of the day-to-day chores involved with the twins. Promise didn’t mind the diaper changes, nighttime feeding, or crying, but she was beginning to get burned out. As the twin began to age, Mitch started taking over more of their care. Promise and Mitch loved there new sons and soon their tiny babies were no longer tiny nor babies. Blaze and Morris were now toddlers and much harder to handle.

The Westmore Family

“Welcome home, brother,” Hunter said snidely, as he continued to munch on a bag of chips.

“Hunter, what in the world are you doing here,” Slone asked incredulously, as he heaved his heavy suitcase into the living room.

“I have come to secure my half of the inheritance,” Hunter said breezily.

“How many times do I have to tell you, there is no “inheritance”?!?! This house is all mom and dad had,” Slone said bitterly.

“Will you two stop fighting for five minutes, so we can finish moving our stuff inside,” Ashleigh said haughtily.

“Hunter, get off you butt and help my wife with her bags,” Slone shouted.

“Why should I?”

“I’ll tell you why,” Ashleigh screeched, “because I’m pregnant! Now get over here and take this suitcase into our bedroom.”

Slone plopped down on the sofa a few hours later and sighed heavily. He could all ready tell that moving his family to Hangman’s Gulch was nothing but a huge mistake. His son, Justice, had been sulking around the house since they arrived and was refusing to unpack his belongings. Ashleigh, his beautiful wife, was resting quietly in their new bedroom, but had made it perfectly clear how much she despised her new surroundings. Lastly, Slone’s younger brother Hunter was pouting in the bedroom that he now had to share with Justice. None of the Westmores were happy about the situation that had befallen them, but Slone had the most pressure. He had to quickly find a new job, so he could support his greedy brother, wife, son and unborn child. Unfortunately, Hangman’s Gulch was far from a thriving metropolis and Slone feared he would have an extremely difficult time trying to find work. For the moment, though, Slone decided to push his worries out of his mind and get some rest.

Starting Over
Posted in: Prosperity Challenge

The Cobra Family

For twenty-five years, Liam Cobra dedicated his entire life to the Hangman Mine. He had sat in the distance, as his friends fulfilled their dreams, by getting married, starting families and leaving the grueling work of a miner. Liam secretly wished he could find the perfect woman to settle down with, but since he was always too busy working; he could never establish a meaningful relationship. Soon Liam found retirement staring him in the face and he didn’t know how he was going to handle not having the mine in his life. Unfortunately, the mine went bankrupt one year before Liam was scheduled to retire, even worse; Liam’s entire pension was gone. He had little money and big bills to pay, so he sold his magnificent, three bedroom home and moved into a one bedroom trailer. Liam felt as though he was starting his entire life over, but he wasn’t sure if he had the energy to succeed.

The sun was shinning brightly and Liam found it hard to sleep. He decided it was time to wake and start his day. As the hot water ran down over his tired, worn joints, he began to wonder how he would survive. There can’t be much work available for a man of my age, he thought. I’m sure it will be difficult to convince anyone to hire me. Liam slowly emerged from the shower refreshed, but defeated. His mood lifted slightly, as he peered from his window and saw the paperboy placing his newspaper on the ground. “Hopefully there will at least be one job I am qualified for,” he whispered to the empty room.

Rockabye Baby
Posted in: A Legacy Story

Months began to fly rapidly by and Promise’s stomach began to expand. The stress of carrying twins forced her on an early maternity leave, but she welcomed the time off. Promise was grateful to have quality time at home with Heart and was finally able to catch up on some important reading she’d been putting off. Heart loved having her mother home and enjoyed feeling the babies kick inside her mother’s tummy. She was looking forward to being a big sister and hoped she would soon have new siblings to play with.

Mitch, on the other hand, was starting to feel the pressure of the impending births. He kept himself extremely busy with work and the building of a new addition to the house.

House Expansion

He hoped that keeping busy would push his fears out of his mind. He knew the life he had grown accustomed to would never be same with two more children. Mitch was worried about the family’s financial well being, the extra stress of having two babies to care for, and the loss of his freedom. The trapped feeling that accompanied the birth of Heart was again rushing to the surface and he began spending more time away from his family. His “friend” Ivy was more than willing to aid Mitch in relieving his pent up tension and after months of refusing to take their relationship to the next level, he finally gave in.

He returned home that night and slid into bed next to Promise. Mitch tried to close his eyes and forget the indiscretion he had committed, but found himself unable to sleep.

Growth
Posted in: A Legacy Story

Promise and Mitch were immersed in parenthood and they worked diligently to provide a loving, stable home for Heart. With such devoted parents, baby Heart flourished and quickly grew into an active, intelligent toddler.

Unfortunately, neither Mitch or Promise were able to stay home everyday, so they finally had to hire some help to take care of Heart and the house. Promise had been avoiding this step, but could no longer delay it and found herself less stressed now that she wasn’t worried about trivial household chores.
