Ramblings of a Sim Addict

Promise loved her new role in life and quickly developed into a loving, caring, and devoted mother. She enjoyed spending time at home, but her work began to call to her. She missed the bustling hospital and the excitement her career brought to her life. Promise was eager to return not only for the patients, because she was also up for another promotion. She had spent most of her maternity leave studying for her next exam and was anxious to take it. However, she didn’t want to hire a nanny yet; she knew they would need to eventually, but she wanted to wait until Heart was older.

Mitch came home that night with wonderful news for his wife; he had been promoted! Promise was thrilled for him, but, at the same time she felt a tinge of jealousy. The tinge quickly died when Mitch announced that with the promotion came extra time off, so Promise could return to work. She threw her arms around his neck and squeezed him tight. She was thrilled, Mitch would care for Heart and she could concentrate on passing her medical exam.

The phone rang that evening, but Promise was sound asleep. Mitch smiled on the other end of the pay phone; he knew she would never realize that he didn’t come home after work. He had hours of freedom ahead of him and a young, pretty colleague on his arm. Mitch spent the night bar hopping with Ivy Copur; he had never felt so alive. He didn’t have to worry about paying the bills, building a nursery, or a pregnant wife; he was just Mitch. Around midnight, Ivy pulled up to Mitch’s front walk and stopped her car. She came around to the passenger side and helped Mitch to his feet. He had released his pent up frustrations that night, but was having difficulty walking to the door. Ivy put her arm around him to steady him, and he turned his head and kissed her.

She was surprised, but leaned into the kiss. She had had a crushed on him since he started working at the lab, and she wasn’t going to let this opportunity go to waste. Once their lips separated, Mitch seemed to have his bearings back and he stumbled through the threshold and into the bedroom. Ivy started her car and drove away, as Mitch snuggled under the covers with his wife.

Promise ran through the bathroom door and fell beside the toilet. She had been feeling nauseated the entire month and was beginning to think something was seriously wrong with her. When she finished splashing cold water on her face, she walked into the bedroom and slipped under the covers. She glanced at the alarm clock that sat next to the bed and realized Mitch wouldn’t be home for a few hours, so she settled in for an after work nap. Her mind slowly began unwinding, as she quietly drifted off to sleep.

Mitch unlocked the front door and was surprised at the sight of an empty living room. Promise was usually curled up in her favorite chair studying for a medical exam. The sight of the empty cushions made his heart jump. He ran into the bedroom and heard his wife softly snoring from underneath the covers. She looked so content; Mitch quietly snuck backwards out the door and sat down to watch a bit of television before bed.

The alarm began blaring the latest pop tune early the next morning, and Promise groggily rolled over and searched the darkened bedroom for the “snooze” button. After five minutes of groping, she was finally able to find it and shut the annoying song off. She rolled over once more to kiss her husband, but he wasn’t there. Promise bolted straight up in bed, but had to quickly lie back down. A few minutes passed, and Promise was able to get her bearings back. She slowly attempted to slide herself from underneath the covers and began her search for Mitch.

The next morning, Promise awoke early and lay in bed watching her new husband sleep. She couldn’t believe she was married and to a man she truly loved. The time clicked by, and Promise finally had to force herself to leave her nice warm bed to get ready for work. Her movement stirred Mitch and he sleepily smiled at his new wife. She smiled back and told him he better get moving if he intended on getting to the grocery store on time. Mitch cringed when Promise mentioned the grocery store and she sat slowly on the bed after she saw his reaction.

Promise kept watch for Mitch from her window. Her heart was pounding, hands were sweating, and mind was racing in anticipation of his arrival. When the doorbell finally rang, Promise tripped over her feet as she ran to answer the door. She took a few moments to compose herself and greeted Mitch with a warm smile and received one in return. They began talking and Promise started telling Mitch her favorite story, when the phone rang. It didn’t take Promise long to decide whom was more important; she ignored the ringing phone and invited Mitch outside so she could finish her story.

The night began to cool and the sun set as Mitch leaned in to kiss Promise for the first time. The pair had spent most of the night talking, but it was getting late and Mitch had to get going. So, he decided to take a chance and the chance paid off. Promise floated back into her house after Mitch’s departure. On her way to bed, she hit the flashing message button on her answering machine and erased Remington’s proposal of a date for next Sunday.

Promise was kept extremely busy for the next month, studying to be promoted to nurse. She had little time to spend with Mitch, but she managed to talk to him every night on the phone. Mitch loved to surprise Promise with flowers and romantic phone messages during their separation. Then finally, Promise got her well-deserved promotion. She called Mitch that night and invited him over to help her celebrate.
