“Letter Home”
Posted in: A Legacy Story
Dear Mom and Dad,
Graduation day is looming ever closer and I am stunned that my four years at university have passed so quickly; it seems like just yesterday I arrived at Academie Le Tour. I have enjoyed every minute I’ve spent here, but have missed my home immensely. I look forward to returning to Lord’s manor and starting my own family.
Freshman year was a learning experience, but I was glad that I choose to live in the dorms. My living arrangement allowed me to meet many interesting individuals and form long lasting friendships. I spent the first semester deciding what to major in and came to the conclusion that drama was what interested me the most. During freshman year, I also met a wonderful co-ed named Cadence and we rapidly fell in love, but you know my romantic tendencies…the flame burned hot, but quickly fizzled away. Mom, don’t worry though, I did not neglect my studies…I ended up finishing freshman year with a 4.0 GPA.

Sophomore year came and went. I had worked out a simple routine that kept me up to date with my studies and afforded me plenty of time for socializing. Cadence and I rarely spoke, since I started a new relationship with a dorm mate of mine named Meredith. We spent countless hours together, but soon she wanted me to propose; however, I was not ready to embark on married life. My refusal to commit to her ended our relationship and we spent the rest of the school year avoiding one another. Once again, I was placed on the dean’s list and awarded a monetary grant for my terrific grades…yes mom, I managed to obtain another 4.0.
Junior year was a transition year, my aspiration for romance began to weigh on my conscious. I had ruined two perfectly wonderful relationships, because of my refusal to commit, so I decided it was time for a change. Now, I was prepared to find a wife and begin a family; I am really looking forward to being a father and hope to have lots of children running around the house. I also determined that I truly wanted to graduate with a degree in drama; I had briefly considered changing my major to history, but decided against the idea. I loved my classes and the thrill of performing.
During this year, I met a wonderful woman named Celeste; she is working as a mailwoman, as well as, attending night school. Her and I have many things in common and quickly formed a strong friendship, but don’t worry mom, I have kept my studies as my number one priority. I completed the year on top of the class, once again, with a 4.0 GPA.
Senior year came too quickly, but I was getting anxious to finish university and begin my professional career. Celeste and I grew closer and I developed a crush on her (my first ever real crush, I think). Mom, dad, I really think she is the woman for me and I can’t wait for you to meet her. Anyway, I completed the year and was awarded my diploma and guess what…I graduated Summa Cum Laude! I am so thrilled with my performance at university and I hope I have made both of you happy and proud. I love you and look forward to moving back home in the next few weeks. Talk to you soon.
Love,
Devin
