“Going to the Chapel”
Posted in: A Legacy Story

Celeste stood stiffly and stared at Devin with her jaw opened wide. “Are you seriously proposing to me,” she questioned.
“Of course, I am serious,” Devin replied. “I apologize for just blurting it out like that but I truly want you to be my wife.”
“Oh Devin…I would be honored to be your wife,” Celeste stammered.
“You’ve made me the happiest man in Veronaville,” Devin cried as he embraced Celeste tightly.

Chastity entered the house that evening to find a huge dinner laid out on the dinning room table. “What’s the occasion,” she questioned her smiling son.
“Mom…dad, I have a wonderful announcement,” Devin gushed, “I asked Celeste to marry me this morning and she accepted.”
“My baby is getting married,” Chastity wailed.
“Congratulations son,” Curtis said as he patted Devin’s back.
“We should have the wedding here,” Chastity suggested abruptly.
“Mom, are you sure,” Devin questioned.
“Honey, preparing for a wedding will be a lot of work,” Curtis interjected.
“Of course I’m sure,” Chastity stated, “and it won’t be that much work. Our yard is all ready immaculate and this is our only son’s wedding; nothing is too good for him.”
“Celeste and I would be honored to have our wedding here. Thanks so much, mom…dad.”

Planning Devin and Celeste’s wedding took every spare minute Chastity had, but she was happy to do it. The day of the impending nuptials continued to draw closer and Chastity began to panic that she would never have the house ready. The night before the wedding, Devin and Curtis assured her that all the preparations were perfect and everything would be wonderful, but she still spent the entire night awake running through each detail in her mind.

Celeste arrived early the next morning to find Lords manor covered in lace and tulle. “Everything looks beautiful, Chastity,” Celeste complimented.
“Call me mom,” Chastity said as she hugged Celeste. “Are you ready to change into your wedding gown?”
“Yes mom, I am ready,” Celeste replied.
“Follow me to your changing room and I will help you get ready.”

With Chastity busy helping Celeste get dress, Curtis was left to greet and seat the guests. Devin could hear the ringing doorbell from inside his bedroom; he was beginning to get nervous…excited but nervous. He loved Celeste and wanted a family, but was worried about being able to provide for them. He had an excellent job, but nothing lasted forever. Devin’s head was beginning to spin with worry when his father opened the door.
“Son, it’s time,” Curtis muttered. “Are you ready to get married?”
“Yes dad, I am ready to walk down the aisle.”

Wedding

The rest of the day passed in a whirlwind of satin and lace. Celeste and Devin professed their love for each other and promised to stay together forever, underneath a rose-covered arch, while their family and friends looked on. When the ceremony ended, the guests proceeded to the buffet table and spent the rest of the afternoon reminiscing, eating and dancing. Night began to fall and Devin surprised his new bride with a limo ride to their honeymoon destination.

“Honey, the wedding was perfect,” Curtis whispered to Chastity as he rubbed her back.
“It was wonderful, wasn’t it? The kids looked so happy, too; I just know they will have the perfect life.”
