Drogheda, Chapter Two

He certainly doesn’t seem to mind the extra attention that she lavishes him with, but I hope that he won’t settle for the first woman he lays eyes on. Paddy needs to find a strong woman that is willing to carry on the Cleary legacy in Drogheda. I don’t see the mailwoman as a viable candidate for his bride, but then again, what can I do about it. I’m nothing but a whisper in the trees and no one will listen to what I have to say.

I must admit that the weeks began to pass rather slowly and Paddy became a bit of bore to watch. The lad would just spend his time working and sleeping; not my idea of an exciting life, but then one night, things started to look up…

Paddy is an awful cook and well, he couldn’t afford the proper appliances to make a meal, so he often ordered out for food. He mainly called for Chinese, but that fateful night, he decided to give the local pizzeria a call. Forty minutes later, a rackety, rusted car pulled up to Paddy’s homestead and out stepped the lovely deliverywoman. My little nephew was instantly hit by attraction for her and it seemed that she felt something for him.

The two spent a few minutes together and I was quite surprised that Paddy actually had the fortitude to ask for her name. She blushed and giggled and finally told him to call her Andrea. I must say that I liked her immediately and I am hopeful that Paddy will do his best to form a relationship with her. Well, it is getting late and this spirit is very tired. I will certainly look for you in the near future and I’m sure there will some interesting developments in Drogheda.

I’m very intrigued! I hope there’s a sexy Ralph de Bricassart character coming up, too. Mmmmm…

The Thorn Birds is one of my all time favorite books! Two of my daughters are named after the characters–my daughter Meghan and my daughter Justine. :-)
