Gypsy Rose
“The Boys”

“Tony knock it off, you’re not my mother, so stop acting like you can control me.”

“Have you thought about mom,” Tony said, glaring at Derek, “have you thought about what it would do to her if you got kicked out of school; she’d never be able to handle it. Not after Anna.”

“Damn it,” Derek said, color rising to his cheeks, “I’m tired of walking around on eggshells, because Anna screwed up. It isn’t my fault she left and got married; honestly, I’m happy for her and I’m not going to get kicked out of school. I told you, I have everything worked out. I’ll be fine.”

“So you conned some innocent, naive girl to do all your work, huh. You think you’ll get away with that for the rest of your life.”

“Stuff it, big bro, I didn’t con anyone. I’m not as stupid as you think I am, believe it or not, I can get passing grades all on my own.”

“I don’t see how, you never go to class,” Tony said, exasperation filling his voice. “I want you to do well, Derek, I care about you.”

“If you cared about me, you’d get off my back and let me handle things my way. I want to have a good time in college, I don’t want to spend all my time studying. Just because that’s all you did, doesn’t mean I have to be the same way. Now if you’d kindly get out of my way, I’m going for a run.”

“Derek, this isn’t over,” said Tony, stepping in Derek’s path. “You need to grow up.”

Derek clenched his fists and blew out a deep breathe, “And you need to learn how to have a little fun, now get out of my way before I give you a black eye.”

Tony stepped aside and sat heavily on the couch, as he watched his brother walk out the front door. What am I going to do with him, he wondered to himself, he has to learn responsibility.

Whoa, some animosity there between the brothers! But Tony has a point… Derek is a bit of a slacker/playboy.

Talk about sibling rivalry! These two are as different as night and day. I hope Derek can pull off getting his grades up - Tony has to let him make his own mistakes. I understand being protective, but Derek is a big boy.

Woah - the two brothers are like night & day, aren’t they? That’s going to make sharing a house difficult. But Tony, Derek is a big boy now & sometimes you’ve got to let them fall on their butt once to learn.
And then you can say “I toldya so!” hehe

Ah family bondage. Nothing like a little sibling drama - and very well written. I enjoyed.

I agree Tony. I think Derek is rapidly screwing up his life. He’s going to get kicked out of school if he doesn’t watch it. So wait… he’s worried about Tuulia making her classes, but he doesn’t go to his own? Derek, you’re going to be a failure in life if you don’t take college more seriously, dingbat! At least Rose has one child who has his head screwed on right. Sadly, Tony, I think you need to let him screw up. It’s the only way he’s going to learn the consequences of his actions. :-/

Ouch, sibling rivalry. Well, not rivalry, they’re just totally different. I like the way your characters are well-developped in this series!

Nice! Kinda sucks that the family views Anna’s path as one to not go down. When love happens and you know what you want/don’t want to do, you’d hope that your family can accept your decisions. Derek seems to have his head on straight, but what difficult footsteps to follow in huh? Oi.

Millions of updates and tons of drama, that’s what I like best :)

Ouch, I can see the Komeii…

Wow, Derek is proving to be more and more like Komei. He is really turning into quite the player. Poor Tony having to deal with him.
