Life for the Lord’s family continued on an even keel, Chastity and Curtis continued to be promoted within their respective career fields and Devin flourished in public school. Years began zipping by and soon it was time for another birthday celebration. Devin was fast approaching his teen years and was looking forward to blowing out the candles of his next cake.

Chastity and Curtis played “hooky” from work, so they could spend the day decorating the house for Devin. When the school bus pulled up that afternoon, the entire house was filled with streamers and balloons. Devin was shocked by all the effort his parents had put into his birthday celebration and was anxiously waiting to dive into his birthday cake. With the candles lit, Devin bent down and blew them out, while his parents cheered in the background. Chastity and Curtis stared blankly, as their son grew into a teenager before their eyes. They were proud of their only son and looked forward to what his future would bring.

Curtis adored his son and loved spending as much time with him as possible. Chastity was eager to return to work and was grateful that Curtis’s schedule allowed him to watch Devin during the day. Now that she was back to “the grind”, she began working hard towards earning her next promotion. She was quickly awarded with the Junior Officer position and she finally found herself truly happy with her life. She had a wonderful husband, beautiful, healthy son and a fulfilling career; she couldn’t ask for anything more.

Chastity continued working for a few more months, but with her growing belly, she was soon placed on maternity leave. She welcomed the break from her job and spent her new found spare time fixing up the nursery. Curtis spent long hours at “work”, trying to earn some extra cash for his growing family. Unfortunately, his position as a robber wasn’t profiting anymore, so he moved his way up to cat burglar. This new “career” allotted him more money, but kept him out later at night and away from his pregnant wife.

Chastity feared for her husband’s safety, but after months of arguing and pleading with him to change professions, she’d finally given up. Instead, she’d instituted a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy with Curtis regarding his life of crime. She figured the less she knew the safer they would both be. Chastity hated the hours Curtis decided to be out, but understood it was the only time he could perform the duties of a burglar. She knew she was getting closer to her due date and feared Curtis would miss the birth of their child.

Her fears were founded and late one night, Chastity was awoken with serve stomach pain. She immediately knew she was in labor and began to push.

Curtis came home early that evening; Chastity was close to her due date and he hated leaving her home alone. He was shocked when he walked into the bedroom and saw Chastity cradling their new child.
“Welcome home,” Chastity cooed, “and come meet your new son, Devin.”

Once again, Curtis found himself speechless and shocked by a Chastity proposal. He loved Chastity, but had hoped he would be the one “popping the question”. Here she was, though, her heart on the line, asking him to marry her.

Chastity began to sweat, Curtis seemed to be wrestling with his answer and she knew that wasn’t a good sign. Finally, Curtis looked into her eyes, grabbed her hands and told her he would marry her. Relieved, Chastity jumped into his arms and hugged him tight. She couldn’t believe she had found the love of her life and had had the courage to propose to him.

They sat down to eat dinner, when Chastity jumped up from the table and ran into the bedroom. She opened the dresser and began rummaging through all the clothes stuffed inside. Curtis sat at the table staring at the closed bedroom door, wondering what his fiancé could be up to. Soon, Chastity emerged from the room, dressed in her finest attire. She ran to Curtis, grabbed his hands and pulled him close to her. “Let’s get married right now,” she whispered breathlessly. He was flattered that she wanted to marry him immediately and granted her request. Curtis and Chastity pledged to spend the rest of their lives together that night.

With the vows behind them and the rings on their fingers, they retired to bed and laid arm in arm as husband and wife.

Over the next few weeks, Curtis spent his spare time moving all his worldly possessions to Chastity’s. Her little house quickly filled and Curtis knew it was time to expand. Luckily, he had some money saved and was able to pay for the construction. Soon, they had a new bedroom, large living room and spacious dinning area to spend their time in.

Chastity was extremely pleased with the improvements Curtis had made to their home. Curtis had made it clear how committed he was to her and she was preparing to take the next step in their relationship. Unfortunately, she was embroiled in the preparation for her drill instructor exam. She wanted the promotion and had to put her personal life on hold for a few months, so she could obtain it.

Finally, all her hard work paid off and she came home the next evening sporting a new uniform and title. Curtis greeted her at the door with a dozen roses and glass of wine. She entered the candle lit dinning room to find a lovely dinner on the table and romantic music playing softly in the background. Chastity was touched by the romantic gesture and found herself releasing all her inhibitions. She turned around and faced Curtis, her voice began to crack, but she pushed on.
